Hi,My name is Mercury.
I’m the closest planet
to the Sun and the eighth
largest. I actually have a
very thin atmosphere
consisting of atoms
blasted off its surface by
the solar wind. Because
I’m so hot, these atoms
quickly escape into space.
Thus in contrast to the
Earth and Venus whose
atmospheres are stable,
my atmosphere is
constantly being
replenished.
Hi ,My name is Venus. I’m the second
planet from the Sun and the sixth
largest. My
orbit is the most nearly circular of that
of any planet, with an eccentricity of
less
than 1%. Since I’m an inferior planet, I
show phases when viewed with a
telescope
from the perspective of Earth.
I’m sometimes regarded as Earth's
sister planet. In some ways we are
very similar:
I’m only slightly smaller than Earth
(95% of Earth's diameter, 80% of
Earth's
mass).
Both have few craters indicating

horizontal motion of the
surface such as the
folded mountains so
common on Earth. When it
is in the nighttime sky,
Mars is easily visible with
the unaided eye.

combined (the mass of Jupiter is
318 times that of Earth). I’m the
fourth brightest object in the sky

Pioneer 10 in 1973.

but smaller in mass than Neptune.
Like the other gas planets, I have
rings.
My atmosphere is about
83% hydrogen, 15% helium and 2%
methane.

name is Neptune.I’m the
eighth planet from the
Sun and the fourth
largest (by
diameter). Neptune is
smaller in diameter but
larger in mass than
Uranus. In Roman
mythology Neptune
(Greek: Poseidon) was the
god of the Sea. My blue
color is largely the result
of absorption of red light
by methane
in the atmosphere but
there is some additional
as-yet-unidentified
chromophore
which gives the clouds
their rich blue tint.
