Our Objectives The National’s core aim is to present a balanced artistic programme, staging around 20 productions a year from the whole of world drama. As a national theatre, the NT takes responsibility for fostering the health of the wider British theatre. Background The Studio is the National’s laboratory – a place for experimentation, research and development for writers, directors, actors, designers and theatre-makers of all kinds. It provides the resources, circumstances and environment to support both emerging and established theatre-makers of outstanding talent, and contributes to the National’s on-going search for and training of new artists The Studio building underwent extensive redevelopment 8 years ago, and now also houses the NT Archive, NT Productions and a space for NT Learning. Purpose of Job To manage and be stationed at the front desk, offering a warm welcome and to act as a key point of information for all users of the Studio. To supervise the maintenance, security and daily running of the building, and coordinate artist payments in liaison with the General Manager, Accounts and Payroll departments. Duties and Responsibilities To ensure the health, safety and security of staff, visitors and contractors at the Studio. To provide a warm welcome to all users of the Studio and to be a point of information for artists and guests To coordinate the activities of the front desk, therefore being the first point of contact for all users of the Studio building To issue payment forms for artists at the start of Studio development workshops To co-ordinate artist payments and be the first point of contact for accounts and payroll departments To monitor and manage the facilities section of the NT Studio budget (under the guidance of the General Manager. To manage security contracts, rota, and duties and to be the first point of contact for buildings security outside of Studio opening times To supervise the maintenance and daily running of the building To communicate building issues to all users effectively and react to changing scenarios quickly, To train new staff in Health and Safety and Evacuation Procedures and ensure procedures are adhered to To act as a principle liaison between the other departments based at the Studio building in particular Archive, Learning, NTP and any other organisation or department operating out of the Studio site To act as principle liaison between other departments at the National Theatre in particular buildings operation teams including I.T, Engineering and Security To liaise with the Studio Assistant in order to make sure the front desk is covered during breaks or other short duties To be responsible for officially opening up the building to the public each morning, and handover from the cleaners who open up the site To manage the Studio’s outsourced cleaning contract To have an overview of the buildings services and what’s needed to ensure the Studio building is maintained to a high standard Being the first point of contact for all deliveries and couriers at the Studio To manage the signing in sheet on a daily basis To be trained in first aid, to ensure that SIA (Security Industry Training) is successfully completed (training will be provided by the National Theatre), and to ensure that the Security Cameras are functioning at all times To provide administrative support to the wider Studio team as and when time allows in the post To attend weekly Team Meetings Any other duties as required by the General Manager To comply with the National’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies at all times. To support the National’s communications objectives by sharing information with your manager, team and colleagues as appropriate, whilst respecting confidentiality, so that you and your colleagues have all the information you need to perform your duties effectively. Person Specification The post-holder must have the following: Experience of either working on a front desk, or in another capacity where they have been a central point of welcome and support; it is of the utmost importance that the candidate is warm, enthusiastic and efficient. The ability to deal confidently and sensitively with artists and members of the public Some experience of monitoring budgets Experience of managing individuals and contractors from an administrative point of view Some experience of Health and Safety legislation and implementation, a knowledge of security operations (Specific training for the SIA (Security Industry Authority) compulsory courses for security and CCTV will be given should these qualifications not already by held by the candidate. Training in First Aid and Physical Intervention will also be provided for by the National Theatre) A passion for and interest in the arts Superb organisational skills Some experience of buildings operations and systems The confidence to take responsibility and make decisions The ability to respect confidentiality and use discretion. Outline of Terms and Conditions TITLE OF POST: STUDIO FACILITIES OFFICER (FIXED TERM CONTRACT UNTIL END DECEMBER 2015) HOURS: This post requires the successful candidate to start at approx 8am and finish at 4pm Mon-Fri. After which the contract security company will take over for the late afternoon/early evening shift. Additional hours may be necessary to fulfil the requirements of the post. SALARY: £23,500 per annum, paid by credit transfer on the 15th of each month. ANNUAL LEAVE: 28 days in the first year, pro rata, including bank holidays, increasing with length of service thereafter. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: 3 MONTHS NOTICE PERIOD: 1 month during probationary period. 6 weeks thereafter PENSION: The National Theatre operates a Stakeholder Pension scheme with Legal & General. If you wish to become a member, you may opt to contribute either 4.5%, 6% or 7.5% of basic pay and the National will make a matching contribution.
