• born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Germany • was a BAROQUE ERA composer • was a deeply religious man who expressed his worship of God through his music • his parents both died when he was 9 years old, and he went to live with his older brother, Christoph • at age 15 he became a member of the choir at St. Michael’s church in Luneberg • he studied organ, violin, clavichord, and composition • was married and had 7 children with his first wife.
