Hollings Faculty Department of Food and Tourism Management BSc (Hons)/HND Consumer Marketing BSc (Hons) Consumer Marketing Sandwich Route The modern consumer is becoming increasingly brand conscious, aspirational and demanding. Our Consumer Marketing course is for students who are interested in becoming effective marketers and wish to learn how to develop new products, create brands and produce marketing strategies that deliver them to consumers. Consumer Marketing at MMU Many businesses are struggling to keep pace with the move towards a consumption-led economy, with the speed of this change being accelerated by the internet and e-commerce. This has created a global demand for marketing graduates who are able to engage with the consumer in new and innovative ways; who can design and manage new brands that will trigger real responses from the consumer. The course is designed to equip you with an awareness of the critical experiences demanded by the consumer and the necessary skills to design creative product solutions for the interactive marketplace. Consumer marketing is the most critical business discipline for many organisations. Whereas business-to-business marketing is mostly driven in a clearly defined manner, business to consumer marketing is determined by fashion and trends, with purchasing behaviour both more personal and often impulsive. This course has a successful track record in attracting students wishing to combine a technical understanding of the product with a career in marketing. It explores the relationship between producers and consumers, as well as the theory of marketing and its application to technical concepts. You will learn how to develop products and effective solutions to the challenges facing the marketing of products to consumers, ensuring that business focus is where it should be – on the needs of the consumer. Study options The course is offered at HND or degree level. You can either do a full-time degree in 3 years or you can pursue the 4 year sandwich route where you spend a year working in industry gaining relevant practical skills and experience (subject to obtaining a suitable placement). HNDs are two-year full-time courses. HND students follow the same programme of study as Years 1 and 2 of the degree course and take HND-specific assessments. HND students who perform to the required standard will usually be able to transfer onto final year of the BSc (Hons) Consumer Marketing after completing their HND.
