 Marketing Science A brief introduction for AMA Doctoral Consortium “Meet the Editors” Session Journal Positioning Marketing Science is the premier quantitative journal in marketing. The journal welcomes papers that address a wide variety of important marketing topics such as consumer choice, pricing, product, distribution, advertising and promotions, innovations, and competitive strategies. The journal is similarly open to a diverse set of methodological approaches such as analytical, statistical, experimental, economic theory, and mathematical psychology. Marketing Science also welcomes and publishes methodological papers. Our editorial board is made up of very knowledgeable and experienced scholars. As a result, your submission will benefit from comments by top marketing experts serving as reviewers and associate editors. The consortium fellows would also be interested in knowing that Marketing Science is the journal of choice for doctoral students and young faculty. Moreover, there is an award named in honor of the Late Frank Bass for the best paper published in Marketing Science or Management Science based on a doctoral dissertation. This is in addition to two other more general awards—John D. C. Little award and Long Term Impact award. Review Process A submitted paper goes through initial screening for fit and contribution before it is sent for additional reviews. If a paper passes the initial screening, it is sent to two reviewers and an associate editor. The final decision is made the senior editor processing the paper. In the review process, we look for three C’s: Contribution, Correctness, and Clarity. A paper’s contribution could either be substantive (e.g., new insights about consumer behavior or firm strategies) or methodological (e.g., a new or improved method to study important managerial problems). The correctness criterion refers to the appropriateness of the model and analysis to achieve the paper’s research objectives and support its conclusions. Clarity includes not only clarity about technical details but also readability of the paper.
