Analysing a print advertisement effectively Denotation – what is literally on the page The type of camera shot – close up/long shot/over head etc. What is it? Why has it been used? Layout – a lot of time is dedicated to this. They want to maximize the impact on an audience Typography – size/colour/style – can suggest audience Connotation – what it makes us think/believe about the product The mise – en – scene. This is anything that can be seen in the image. It can be used to describe the lighting, shots, focusing and type of shot The colours – these suggest mood and can suggest audience.
