Head of Marketing Communications – Informa | Financial Intelligence, Flexible / NY or Boston
Informa Financial Intelligence has a newly created opportunity for a Head of Marketing
Communications to ensure the vertical marketing strategy is turned into effective, customer-facing
tactics that drive customer behavior and business results. This role will lead a marketing communications
team that will create, implement and analyze the relevant marketing channels that best engage internal
and external customers and achieve the desired outcomes for the best possible cost.
This will involve:






Meeting strategic business goals and deliver revenue and profit targets
Achieving agreed outputs, deadlines, budgets and KPIs
Delivering consistent strong value propositions, brand identity and compelling messages that
influence purchasing/renewal decisions and win/retain business
Ensuring campaigns are delivered to highly targeted audiences that reflect the personas and
profiles identified by the vertical
Driving innovation and efficiency across the marketing mix
Review, adapt and evolve performance to drive a higher return on investment.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing Communications





Demonstrate expertise in media planning, multichannel marketing, CRM, digital marketing,
discoverability, metrics and analytics.
Continually develop communication strategies in line with changing customer behavior.
Provide and apply an industry-level view of best practice in marketing communications.
Inspire, persuade and influence discussions of marketing communications strategy and best
practice.
Drive a culture of measuring ROI and applying data driven learning within the team.
Planning and budgeting




Responsible for the achievement of the marketing communications mission, goals and financial
objectives.
Ensure evaluation systems are in place related to business goals and objectives and report
progress to the Vertical Executive management team & Central Marcoms team.
Develop short and long-term plans and budgets for the marketing communications program and
its activities, monitor progress, assure adherence and evaluate performance.
Develop, implement and monitor systems and procedures necessary to drive a highly effective
marketing communications team.
Marketing Strategy




Develop robust strategic marketing communications plans, driven by deep insight from the
product marketing team and vertical
Able to confidently discuss overall marketing communication strategies to all stakeholders
Demonstrate high level of expertise in segmentation techniques, and customer lifecycle planning
Able to articulate the business objectives of all campaigns to the marcoms team to gain the
maximum return on the investment
Marketing Operations




Constantly seeks to educate / inform senior management about the value created by customer
data management, and campaign management processes and tools.
Ensure analytics drive insight that then drive changes in behavior and enables better decisionmaking.
Demonstrates real expertise in CRM, customer data, list management, campaign metrics and
performance analytics.
Clearly understands the importance of measuring ROI, funnel management and measurement,
and of capturing and continually applying learning.
Resource management




Identify, manage and develop relationships with external resources to increase the expertise
within the team including creative agencies & digital media agencies.
Support and drive team development by effective learning and team motivation.
Produce detailed reports which analyze budget performance and effectiveness and support the
development of the strategy
Identify the skills, knowledge and resources required to understand planned activities and ensure
the capacity and capability of current workforce can meet these requirements.
Leadership






Lead the vertical on marketing communications strategy and be able to show how the activity is
having an impact on the customers and revenue.
Responsible for the effective management of marketing staff, provision and succession.
Provide ongoing performance management, coaching and development of all direct reports.
Create and manage processes to increase the effectiveness of the team and create greater
efficiencies, including driving and implementing change management programs.
As a member of the management team, provide input into and seek to influence the objectives
and strategies of the business.
Build internal relationships across vertical marketing communications teams to share best
practice, processes and manage talent.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS









Experience in marketing communications with demonstrated success, preferably in the B2B
sector
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing
communications activities
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal sales skills
Experience developing and managing budgets, and hiring, training, developing, supervising and
appraising personnel
Robust strategic thinker – able to formulate and achieve challenging strategic objectives, based
on clear understanding of market trends, customer needs and business imperatives
Experience managing external agencies the design including creative and digital
Bachelor’s level education or equivalent (marketing qualification desirable)
Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, particularly word and excel
Able to deal with ambiguity and work in a matrix organization, adaptable and flexible
