WHO'S WHO IN Virginia Woolf?
TOM CALLAHAN, Assistant Stage Manager, is a senior at SJSU.
Though usually involved as a performer, Virginia Woolf marks the sec
ond time he has been assistant stage manager, following The Good
Woman of Setzuan. Some of his performance credits include: Danny
and Kenickie in productions of Grease, Fyedka and a bottle dancer in
Fiddler on the Roof, and Anansi in The Ghost Hour. This summer Calla
han hopes to return to the Diamond Circle Theatre, a summer melo
drama company in Durango, Colorado.
ANTHONY D. COMBS, George, is a Political Science senior. He has
performed various roles at SJSU including: Russel in Loose Ends, Dr.
Seward in Dracula, Avrahm in Fiddler on the Roof, The Carpenter in The
Good Woman of Setzuan, and Carey in Mountain Meadows Massacre.
Tony has worked for several theatres in the San Jose area and aspires
to a career as a film actor. Tony wishes to dedicate his performance to
his mother and father, both of whom he admires and loves dearly.
TAMMY HUNT, Property Designer, first started her theatre career in
1977 with a junior high production of Dracula, Baby. Her last completed
show (ten productions later) was, ironically, the University Theatre's
Dracula. Hunt operated a camera during Mountain Meadows Massacre,
however she most often works as co-head of properties with Cathy
Moser.
CATHY MOSER, Property Designer, is a sophomore at SJSU and a
Theatre Arts Major. This is her fourth show at the University Theatre.
Her work includes The Cherry Orchard, The Good Woman of Setzuan,
and Dracula. Moser's college credits include only backstage work, how
ever she has also performed in several productions.
KATHY SUE NEFF, Costume Designer, will graduate this June with a
B.A. in Art and a minor in Theatre Arts. In the future she plans to work
for a professional costume shop. Neff will represent SJSU at the Univer
sity Resident Theatre finals in March . She has designed the costumes
for Les Belles Soeurs at the San Francisco Repertory Theatre. Neff has
worked for City College of San Francisco as costumer, Berkeley Shake
speare Festival as Design Assistant, and Stanford University as costume
intern. Presently, Neff is the undergraduate assistant in the Costume
Shop at SJSU; her work includes the armor for Ondine and tailoring for
Mountain Meadows Massacre and The Cherry Orchard.
KATY O'SHEA, Honey, is in her second year at SJSU. Her perfor
mances include Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire, Volante in Ondine,
and Mina in Dracula. Katy also dances and models when she can find
the time. This summer she hopes to go to Durango, Colorado and per
form in summer theatre. Next fall O'Shea plans to begin a two year pro
gram of performance studies at the Pacific Conservatory of the Perform
ing Arts.
RON PATE, Nick, is a sophomore pursuing a B.A.. in Theatre Arts.
Pate's performances at SJSU include Colonel Cathcart in Catch 22, the
Horseman/Nugget role in Equus, and Yang Sun in Brecht's The Good
Woman of Setzuan. Off campus Pate has appeared in Dark of the Moon,
Gypsy and Forum. Last summer he played the part of the Indian in San
Jose Civic Light Opera's Fantasticks. His career goal, obviously, is
performing.
LEON RONZANA, Scene Designer, graduated from SJSU in December
1983. While attending school he focused on acquiring acting and direct
ing experience, however, he still found time to assist designer Dusty
Reeds in two productions, The Good Woman of Setzuan and Fiddler on
the Roof. Virginia Woolf is his first scene design. Many of our patrons
will remember Ronzana as the Superintendent of the Theatre in Ondine,
Mendal in Fiddler on the Roof, and Milo Minderbinder in Catch 22. Ron
zana is looking forward to working in summer stock later this year and
plans to study acting in New York beginning in the fall.
CARLL. SHANKS, Sound Engineer, is a Master's student in Theatre
Arts with a concentration in technical theatre. His technical credits in
clude: sound design for over twenty different shows, on campus and off,
stage management for Danceworks, technical direction for Ghost Hour,
recording and lighting for Bay Area bands, and set construction at SJSU.
Shanks is currently concentrating his studies on the non-technical areas
of advertising and public relations. Shanks has also demonstrated his
acting ability in SJSU's Black Bart and Little Mary Sunshine.
DIANA M. TORRES, Martha, is Diana's first role at SJSU, although she
has performed with other theatres in the area. Torres' last appearance
was in San Jose Civic Light Opera's The Fantasticks as Luisa. She has
played in several productions at the University of Santa Clara, including
Anatol, Suicide in B Flat, Taken in Marriage and The Beggar's Opera.
An accomplished musician, Torres has been piano accompanist for San
Jose Civic Light Opera and Santa Clara University productions. She also
moonlights as a singer in local lounges.
MEG WALKER, Stage Manager. Walker is a graduate student in
Speech Pathology; she began her involvement in the Theatre Arts De
partment two years ago with the position as Assistant Stage Manager
for Henry IV, Part 1, a job she also accepted for this season's opener
Dracula. Walker appeared in Interview, an SJSU Studio Theatre produc
tion which was also performed at the On Broadway Theatre in San Fran
cisco, however she prefers stage managing. After Virginia Woolf Walker
wi ll be pursuing employment with Bay Area theatres and is making plans
for a move to New York City next spring.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES
PATRONS Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a love story which, on
the surface, appears to be an excoriating description of one
drunken evening with two married couples, strangers, who
reveal each other's deepest secrets; a confrontation be
tween the sciences and the humanities; an expose of a fail
ing marriage; a hard examination of tired college professors
who have "come to rest"; a dramatic montage of alco
holism, infidelity, childlessness, fantasies and obsessions,
but, most of all, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? is a love
story.
If you would like to become one of our patrons, you may
do so by sending your tax deductible donation to the
Theatre Arts Department or by giving it this evening to one
of our staff in the Box Office or in the Lobby. Another way
to become a patron is to donate your professional services
and energies to our program.
Our continued growth as a vital element of the artistic life
of this community depends on the generosity of our hon
ored patrons.
