Cooperative Learning Project
Historical Psychologists and Disorders
Due Monday, August 20, 2012
Value: 80 Points
Activity: Students will work in small groups (no more than 3) to conduct research and
prepare a presentation on a Historical Psychologist/Approaches and a psychological
disorder.
Students will present a PowerPoint presentation over one historical
psychologist/approach and then choose one psychological disorder to present to the
class. Students will want to talk about the Psychologists life, work, and importance to
the psychological field (either beneficial or other). Students will want to talk about the
psychological approach, how it was founded, who founded it, why it is important, and
how it changed the field of psychology. Students will want to pick a disorder and
explain when it was first recognized, symptoms of the disorder, treatments of the
disorder, and how it affects people and their lives. Students will need to have a
minimum of 3 slides for the historical psychologist and 3 slides for the disorder. Also, a
minimum of 4 sources should be cited on the last page to ensure a balanced and
accurate account of the psychologist and disorder.
Visuals (power point, photographs, cartoons, newspaper articles/headlines, etc.) that
will help keep your audience’s attention but will still help to reveal some information
about the psychologist/disorder.
Example of PowerPoint presentation (minimum requirement):
Slide 1- Beginning slide with Psychologist, Disorder, and group member’s names
Slides 2-4- Will discuss the Psychologist, his birth, childhood, life, work, importance
Slides 5-7- Discuss disorder, it affects, treatments, symptoms
Slide 8- Works citied page for documentation of sources used
Printing of Your PowerPoint
I would like a printed copy of everyone’s PowerPoint. Please make sure when you print, go to
the PRINT WHAT: and select Handouts. Then go to Color/Grayscale and select Pure Black and
White. Then select Slides per page and select either 6 or 9 slides per page.
