Human Body Systems Mini Project
Name: _______________ Date: 3/31 Due Date: 4/17
Objectives:
* Students will be able to name the human body systems and their functions.
* Students will be able to identify the organs and structural parts present in their chosen body system, eg.,
Circulatory: heart, arteries, veins, and capillaries.
* Students will be able to describe the basic structure of the major organs in each system.
* Students will enhance their research and presentation skills.
Requirements:
* Research an assigned body system (research may be completed in same system groups), create a
visual aid, and present information to the class.
* What to research for your assigned body system:
- List and explain the functions of the organ system.
- Identify the major organs and their functions.
* Visual Aid:
- Title.
- Outline of body.
- Diagram of major organs in anatomically correct locations.
- Labels on major organs.
- Neat, easy to understand, colorful, creative.
The systems are below, along with some of the organs, and basic function.
System
Major Structures
Function
Circulatory
heart, blood vessels, blood
transports nutrients and wastes to and from all body tissues
Digestive
mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver,
pancreas, small and large intestines
air passages, lungs
stores and digests food; absorbs nutrients; eliminates waste
Respiratory
Muscular
&
Skeletal
Nervous
muscles (skeletal, cardiac, smooth)
bones
brain, spinal cord, nerves, sense
organs, receptors
carries air into and out of lungs, where gases (oxygen and
carbon dioxide) are exchanged
provides structure; supports and moves trunk and limbs; moves
substances through body
provides structure; supports and protects internal organs
controls and coordinates body movements and senses; controls
consciousness and creativity; helps monitor and maintain other
body systems
Questions for you to think about as you begin to conduct research on your body system.
1. What does my system do for our body?
2. What are some of the major organs that make up my body system?
3. What is the job of each of these major organs?
4. What does my system look like? Will I draw and label the organs, print graphics from the
computer, or cut pictures out of journals?
5. Where did I get my information?
Helpful websites to get information
1. http://kidshealth.org/kid/ ~click on How the Body Works link
2. www.brainpop.com (username/password: palmbeach) and search body systems
3. www.nationalgeographic.com
and search body systems
4. http://www.kidskonnect.com/content/view/337/27/ ~scroll down until you see information about the human body
5. http://www.sciencenetlinks.com/interactives/systems.html ~a fun game to play
6. www.howstuffworks.com search your body system ~ video clips of how body systems work
7. www.sonofcitationmachine ~make your own Bibliography
