What was Roman family life like? Maria Martinez 2nd period Farmers • Owners of big farming estates built themselves a central group of buildings known as villa. There was a take-away bar where they could go eat. If you were a rich roman then you’ll have a slave cooking and you could eat a great variety of foods. Something extra • Foot-gear was mainly of two kinds ,but was worn in many style and customs The rules for shoes weren’t as strict as those for regular clothing.The calceus was sandal like shoe strapped to the foot for internal wear. MILLS • The Romans invented a lot of new ways to mine for metals like silver and gold and lead. They developed water mills as well for grinding grain. Vaults • The use of concrete helped them to develop the dome and the barrel vaults and the cross vault. They used their vaults to build aqueducts to carry fresh water to towns, and they used their engineering skills to build sewage system to keep their towns clean and healthy. What I find interesting • I find interesting how they discovered all of these things with out as much schooling as we get today. I also find it interesting how they did all these things and made these supplies out of almost nothing and not being taught to do them.
