Marketer of the Year Award Submission Criteria
Purpose and Background
This award honors personal achievement and recognizes a member’s extraordinary leadership
and contribution to their firm’s marketing success. This award recognizes a member’s leadership
and personal achievements and accomplishments in his or her firm or as a consultant to an
A/E/C firm.
Eligibility
Candidates are encouraged to self‐nominate or be nominated by another party. To be eligible,
candidates must meet the following criteria:
99 Three or more years of related A/E/C marketing experience
99 Current chapter member
99 Sustained involvement in the Virginia Chapter of SMPS
Judging Criteria
Candidates will be evaluated based on the following criteria: The judges understand that some
nominees roles might not include all aspects listed below. All of these criteria are considered, but
significant accomplishment in one area will also be considered.
99 Strategic Planning and Research – Facilitated research and development of the firm’s
strategic marketing plan that included a results‐oriented business development plan.
99 Business Development – Directed the marketing or business development plan
resulting in achievement of strategic or specific firm goals.
99 Management – Provided significant contributions to management in areas such as
marketing organization and systems, operations, finance, administration, or human
resources that positively impacted the firm’s strategic goals, bottom line, and/or
marketing and business development success.
99 Communications – Implemented a successful external or internal public relations
/ communications program that included effective marketing materials and
communications such as direct mail, print or digital newsletter, social networking, press
releases, advertising, tradeshows and/or special events that produced tangible benefits.
99 Innovation – Introduced a new, innovative marketing approach or a new service, which
added value to the firm or has been recognized in the profession or by clients.
99 Education and Training –Implemented an internal professional development program
for marketing or technical staff related to marketing, business development, client
maintenance or mentorship
99 Service to the Profession – Contributed significantly to the growth, visibility and
advancement of the A/E/C marketing profession through publishing, public speaking or
training.
Submittal Materials and Format
99 Completed Application Form (not to exceed four pages in length) – describe how the
nominee exemplifies marketing excellence, provides insight, or broadens the knowledge
and understanding of our field in a significant way
99 Reference letter supporting the accomplishments of the nominee and signed by a
principal of the nominee’s firm. If the nominee is a consultant, provide a letter from the
principal of a firm for which the consultant provided services (not to exceed one page in
length, only required if self‐nominating)
99 Electronic PDF format, no hard copies
