PREPOSITION A preposition is a word that introduces a phrase and shows a relationship between the noun or pronoun in the phrase and some other word in the sentence. EXAMPLE: Grendel slowly stirs in his murky and vile lair. CONJUNCTION A conjunction is a word that joins words or groups of words. EXAMPLE: Grendel slowly stirs in his murky and vile lair. INTERJECTION An interjection is a word that expresses emotion and has no grammatical relation to other words in a sentence. EXAMPLE: “Yuck!
