Curriculum Vitae Emma Louise Gerrard Dip AVN (Small Animal) DipHE CVN BSc (Hons) CVN RVN KSQP PHC Llansantffraid Powys SY22 6FF Date of birth: 29 January 1984 Home : Mobile : 07814617491 Email : [email protected] Skills Summary I have sixteen years’ experience working within the veterinary sector in surgeries in the Welshpool/Oswestry area. I have gathered my qualifications through the BVNA and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, gaining a credit in my NVQ Small animal nursing at level 3. I returned to Myerscough College and gained the Higher Education Diploma in Clinical Veterinary Nursing in July 2009 followed by the Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing (Small Animal) in January 2010. I continued to study for the BSc Hon Clinical Veterinary Nursing top up degree and graduated in 2011. I was one of the first twenty seven nurses who achieved the new modular style advanced nursing diploma. Within the practice I take an active role in the day to day running of the practice and carry out a range of nursing duties. I enjoy surgical nursing, feline behaviour, preventative healthcare and marketing. I have played a key role as senior nurse in several practices and have set up nurse clinics and taken a role in supervising and training student nurses and animal nursing assistants. I am also a clinical coach for two student veterinary nurses through Central Qualifications and City and Guilds and very much enjoying teaching the next generation of veterinary nurses. I have shown my commitment to animal well-being and care by completing a range of continuous professional development training. As a result of this I obtain over 50 1 hours of CPD each year and took on voluntary roles within the BVNA and BSAVA to organise CPD for vets and nurses within my region. I am currently studying for the BVNA/Lantra Infection Control for practice standards scheme certificate. I also write articles for the Veterinary Nursing Times on a range of nursing topics. In June 2008, the Worldwide Veterinary Society (WVS) selected me as a team member for a cat-neutering scheme in Sicily. I enjoyed this experience thoroughly and furthered my nursing knowledge. I was selected for a further trip in 2009 to Samos where I assisted student Veterinary surgeons on a training neutering trip. I found these trips very enlightening and I learnt to adapt to different veterinary protocols and how to work with limited resources. I hope to continue to support the WVS by taking part in more trips. In 2012, I became the Veterinary Nursing advisor for a UK charity, International Aid for the Protection and Welfare of Animals (IAPWA) working in Borneo. As part of this I was lucky enough to travel to Borneo, on a fundraising trip. Whilst there I climbed the highest mountain in South East Asia, Kinabalu, saw wild Orangutans along the Kinabatagan River and visited the IAPWA sanctuary. I raised £3500 for the charity and provided valuable awareness to their cause. As a result of my work with IAPWA, I was nominated and selected as a double finalist in the 2013 Ceva Awards in the Veterinary Nursing and International Volunteer categories. I believe that I maintain a professional approach when dealing with clients, my line managers and colleagues whilst working to the necessary hygiene, health and safety, manual handling guidelines and protocols required. organised, methodical and thorough in all aspects of my work.
