Functions:
 1. Supports the body
 2. Protects internal organs
 3. Allows movement
 4. Stores minerals
 5. Makes blood cells

Structure – 3 types of muscle
tissue:
 1. Skeletal muscle – attached to
bone
 2. Smooth muscle – not under
voluntary control (lining of
stomach, blood vessels)

3. Cardiac muscle – makes up
the heart.
 Function – to provide forces for
movement
 - muscles attached to bones by
tendons
 - muscle contractions move
bones (uses ATP for energy )

Arthritis – inflammation of joints
 Muscular Dystrophy - inherited
disorder causing weakening and
wasting away of muscles.

