Experimental Journal-Botany
Day 1
Procedure: Cut two 2-liter bottles in half. Place sand in the bottom of both to function as
weight. Place about 1 cup of soil on top of the sand. Then, sprinkle lettuce seeds over the soil.
Spread another layer of soil over the seeds. Dampen the soil and then place one indoors under
artificial lighting and one outside in an area where the seeds will acquire sunlight.
Day 3
The seeds do not show any growth yet. Both containers received water.
Day 6
The seeds outdoors do not show any signs of growth. The indoor seeds have sprouted and
are now about 5 cm. tall. Bother containers received water.
Conclusion
The indoor plants grew better than the outdoor plance because at night the temperature
reached below freezing. The cold temperature during the day did not allow photosynthesis to
occur at a sufficient rate.
