Industries are reinventing themselves for the digital age. Predix makes it possible. Predix is a distributed application and services platform optimized for developing, managing, and monetizing Industrial Internet applications. GE created Predix to transform industrial operations—leveraging their broad industrial experience into a continually evolving comprehensive Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform. With Predix, industrial companies can dramatically improve the performance of their assets and operations, lower costs, and develop innovative new revenue streams faster and for less than with homegrown industrial or traditional enterprise platforms. Discover how Predix is moving industry forward with a lasting, global impact. By 2020, over 50 billion assets will connect to the Internet. The amount of industrial data generated will be massive in volume, velocity, and variety with industrial data growing twice as fast as any other economic sector.1 Predix - An IIoT platform built for industry. The Industrial Internet lives in offshore oil rigs, wind farms, intelligent products, and connected factories. These and many other environments are being transformed by digital technologies, making them more efficient than ever before. Insights from analytics are unlocking the new revenue streams of fast-moving industrial companies who are realizing the potential of the Industrial Internet to open new ways to serve customers, collaborate with partners, and become digital leaders. GE has the know-how to help with your digital industrial transformation because GE uses its own Predix platform to help customers achieve new outcomes across manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation and distribution, aviation, transportation industries and more. Predix solutions outcomes include: • Visibility of asset health and performance • Improved uptime through optimized and predictive maintenance • Operator intelligence and control • Data-driven insights to optimize manufacturing, scheduling, and logistics • Intelligent, connected products • Ability to develop and monetize data-driven apps and services Faster innovation with a lower TCO The Predix platform delivers IIoT with: Predix enables highly complex and regulated businesses to implement a manageable and measurable digital-industrial transformation program. Predix allows companies to simplify their approach by leveraging the experience and scale of GE and its ecosystem of partners, so companies can focus on driving innovation with their customers. • Secure connectivity to GE and non-GE industrial equipment, assets, and devices Because critical analysis must often take place where the data is gathered, even in remote or harsh environments, industrial deployments require an architecture optimized to support edge-to-cloud computing. Predix is built from the ground up to meet the needs of distributed, challenging, and complex industrial environments. • Support for a variety of user experiences and mobile devices • Modern development tools and a growing catalog of applications and services from GE and its partners • Advanced data management and analytics • On-demand provisioning that scales with your business Research and experience has shown that adopting a platform can accelerate innovation and enable traditional businesses to manage such a transformation. However, customers that typically use their own DIY/homegrown business systems or non-industrial platforms face many challenges. Because valuable resources are tied up in building and maintaining their own platform, very few achieve significant business outcomes. Building on Predix reduces project risk and ongoing opex costs. 2 The Predix Advantage. Edge-to-cloud computing with Predix System Predix provides a unique mix of capabilities: Perform analysis where data is gathered, even in remote or challenging environments. Tools for digital twins Integrated security and governance Understand and predict performance by capturing the evolving life span of an asset or system—for unprecedented knowledge and insight. Industrial-grade security and data governance are built into every part of the Predix platform. Industrial security operations experts ensure Predix applications and data are managed with high levels of resilience, confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Rich ecosystem of third-party apps and services A growing and evolving marketplace of industrial apps and a rich catalog of services. A partner, ISV, and developer community contribute to speedier development and faster monetization. 3 Digital twin technology Industrial IoT applications need to model, analyze, and optimize the physical world. Predix tools for building and managing digital twins make it easier than ever before. Digital twins are digital models of physical assets and operations, building the bridge from the physical to the digital worlds, providing understanding of each unique asset over time. They combine data from sensors and devices with analytics, models, and material science for a constantly improving digital model of industrial components and assets, and even entire processes and plants. As more digital twins run on the platform, the industrial learning system feeds back data to the individual digital twins, improving fidelity. Whether you are an asset manufacturer or asset operator, Predix-powered digital twins offer a unique, highly accurate digital representation of your assets and systems across their design, build, run, operate, and service life cycle—removing barriers to insight and innovation. Turning insights into outcomes with Predix analytics Edge-to-cloud distributed intelligence Today’s industries must be data-driven. Predix supports a comprehensive approach to uncovering the relationships in your industrial data by using descriptive analytics (what happened and why), predictive analytics (what might happen next), and prescriptive analytics (how to improve decision-making). Industrial operations take place all over the world in some of the most challenging and remote environments. A platform must have end-to-end visibility and control, plus operate at the source of data— connecting to a variety of assets and devices. Security and timing requirements mean data and analytics may need to be delivered right away, without connecting to a distant network. As part of the Predix platform, the Predix System includes GE’s unique edge technology that provides an edge-to-cloud application environment running on Predixready devices. With Predix System, Predix applications can be deployed in a distributed manner to a connected asset, controller, gateway, or other edge device—all with a consistent deployment model, device management, and security architecture. Deploying analytics in the cloud—and at the edge— ensures they are distributed across the business to increase effectiveness with: • Operational analytics that work at the edge—whether it’s on a factory floor, an aircraft engine, a wind turbine, or intelligent connected vehicle—and detect problems, so that operational optimizations can happen, preventing downtime and optimizing performance. • Using petabytes of operational data, historical analytics improve operations over time, making it possible to build large-scale predictive models to help operate plants or fleets more efficiently. 4 Scalable framework for data ingestion and management Data in the industrial world is growing faster than any other sector, and yet less than 3% of that data is tagged and used in a meaningful way. Industrial data is also messy and moving fast —arriving as multi-terabyte streams in different formats and from multiple sources such as equipment sensors, assets, and control systems. Yet, once the data is captured, it can be fragmented and siloed, making it difficult to analyze and reuse. Predix provides real-time access to industrial data by using machine intelligence to automate the data ingestion and mapping process. By automating data mapping, Predix can generate operational insights rapidly, providing a contextual view of your data in days instead of months. Predix security services also helps protect data with network-level data isolation, encryption, and keymanagement. Features include: Connection to the source Connect to GE and non-GE machine sensors, controllers, gateways, enterprise databases, operational historians, and content stores Automated data ingestion and mapping Processing and bulk upload tools for unstructured, semi-structured, and structured data—for speedier design, testing, and generation of code, leading to easier management and monitoring of projects. Data conversion for analytics on “data-in-motion” and data modeling. Governance and cataloging services for data cleansing, quality, enrichment, tagging, and processing. Data management using machine intelligence Using machine intelligence, perform complex data integration and analysis across connected devices, OT and IT systems, and external sources. There is also storage in the right data store, whether it’s machine sensor data, large images, or relational and unstructured content. Data federation capabilities allow users to extract value, find patterns, and process complex events. • Protecting data through tenant segregation and restricted access with data protection from the moment of asset connection Predix is also supported by security-related processes and tools for secure software development: • Mandatory application security • Secure development guidelines, tools, and services that help innovate with confidence Industrial-grade security and integrated governance The Industrial Internet demands a high level of security and data governance. That’s why the Predix environment is continuously being monitored for availability, safety, and compliance — monitoring for anomalies and suspicious events, with penetration testing of defenses. Predix is secure and resilient by design: • Support for a variety of international security standards • Designed with a defense-in-depth approach • 24x7 network and security operations 5 Get started with Advisory Services Uncover the outcomes that are critical for your business.
