theneckofthepancreas,whereituniteswiththesplenicveinto
formthehepaNcportalvein
SpecializedlymphaAcvesselsintheintesNnalvillithatabsorbfatare
calledlacteals.

Withinthemesentery,thelymphpassessequenAallythroughthree
groupsoflymphnodes:
•  juxta-intesNnallymphnodes:locatedclosetotheintesAnalwall.
•  mesentericlymphnodes:sca[eredamongthearterialarcades.
•  superiorcentralnodes:locatedalongtheproximalpartofthe
SMA.
EfferentlymphaAcvesselsfromthemesentericlymphnodes
draintothesuperiormesentericlymphnodes.
LymphaAcvesselsfromtheterminalileumfollowtheilealbranchof
theileocolicarterytotheileocoliclymphnodes.

TheinnervaNonofthesmallintesNneisbytheentericnervous

Preganglionicneuronalcellbodiesarelocatedinthe
intermediolateralcellcolumnofthespinalcord(T8–12).
Preganglionicaxonsformthe:

SYMPATHETIC
Postganglionicneuronalcellbodiesarelocatedintheceliacganglion
andsuperiormesentericganglion.

thevagus.
PreganglionicaxonsruninCNXandreachthesmallintesAneviathe

system;someofthesearethe“tradiAonal”postganglionic
parasympatheAcneuronsthatreleaseAChasaneurotransmi[er.
Thepostganglionicaxonsterminateonmucosalglandsandsmooth
muscle.
