FLUOROSCOPY
 A technique for obtaining "live" radiographic images on a
screen monitor using continuous x-ray beam.
 Performed to observe the digestive tract :
Upper
pp GI series - Barium Swallow
Lower Gl series - Barium Enema
Fluoroscopy Tube
Over Couch Tube
Barium Swallow :
 To

off the
th upper gastrointestinal
t i t ti l tract
t t
including the esophagus, stomach and duodenum
 To diagnose hiatus hernia, esophageal obstruction,
esophageal spasm, stomach dysfunction and peptic ulcer
disease.

Double Contrast
HSG (Hysterosalpingography)
 Most commonly used to evaluate patients with infertility
problem or frequent miscarriages.
 To evaluate tubal patency and uterine abnormalities
Ex: congenital uterine anomaly, fibroid or tumor mass.
Normal HSG
Abnormal HSG
Micturating Cystourethrogram
 To outline the anatomy of the urinary tract through catheterisation
and contrast administration.
 Indications for imaging are :
 Vesicoureteric reflux in recurrent Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
for children
 Urethral stricture
 Bladder dysfunction

OTHER PROCEDURES
Barium Meal Follow Through
Sinogram
Parotid Sialogram
Loopogram
ERCP
(Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
 ERCP refers to imaging of the biliary and pancreatic
duct with the use of endoscope under fluoroscopic
guidance
 Side-viewing endoscope is passed through the patient's
mouth esophagus
mouth,
esophagus, stomach and into the duodenum
 It is a preoperative study to plan for cholecystectomy or
postoperative to remove stones in the biliary ducts.
