Ancient Studies 2014-­‐2015 Historical Themes & Core Questions The History sections of Ancient Studies will consider the impact of Ancient Greece and Rome on the development of Western Civilization. In particular, we will explore questions of: Freedom; Slavery; War; Democracy; Republicanism, Imperialism, and Culture. Students will engage the questions below in readings, discussion, journal writing, formal essays, and examinations. What contributions did Ancient Greece and Rome make to the development of WESTERN CIVILIZATION? What is the positive legacy of each society? What is the negative legacy of each society? Which Ancient Greeks contributed most to the development of Western Civilization? Who were the most significant individuals? Which were the most significant city-­‐states?
