BENCHMARK SC.912.L.18.9
Explain the interrelated nature of photosynthesis and cellular respiration

Identify the reactants, products, and basic functions of photosynthesis.
CO2 + H2O + Energy = C6H12O6 + O2 +Energy
Reactants
=
Product
The Rule is that everything to the left of the arrow is a reactant! Everything to the right is a product. This is
on the EOC.
So what are the Reactants????

CO2
H2O
So what are the Products????
C6H12O6
O2
Chloroplast- need to know granum, thylakoid, and stroma
Pigment are found in the chloroplast
Identify the reactants, products, and basic
functions of aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration.

Students will connect the role of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to
2
energy transfers within the cell.
Connect the role of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to energy transfers within a cell.
ATP has a base, sugar and 3 phosphates
ATP = 3phosphate ( greatest energy storage)
ADP= 2 phosphate
AMP= one phosphate
ATP is used in cells for:
1. Respiration
2. Photosynthesis
3. Metabolism
4. Muscle contraction
5. Cell activity
6. Cell Movement
7. Fluorescent(light bugs)


Students will identify the reactants, products and/or the basic
function of photosynthesis.
Students will explain how the products of photosynthesis are used as
reactants for cellular respiration and vice versa.

Students will explain how photosynthesis stores energy and cellular
respiration releases energy.
Photosynthesis stores in energy in the bond of the sugar molecule
Cellular respiration releases the energy from the bonds in the sugar molecules
Students will identify the reactants, products and/or the basic
functions of aerobic and anaerobic cellular respiration.
Anaerobic – (without oxygen) 2 types
1. Alcoholic fermentation makes alcohol
2. Lactic Acid fermentation makes Cheese, yogurt,
3
Alcohol
Pyruvate is the fuel for fermentation and respiration
Lactic Acid
Aerobic is in the presence of oxygen
Glycolysis- means sugar splitting ( glyco=suagr) (lysis= break) occurs in the cytoplasm
4
5
This is called the Kreb Cycle( only the name is needed to be know)
Glycolysis- occurs in cytoplasm
Kreb Cycle- occurs in stroma
ETC- occurs in thylakoid membrane

Which statement describes how photosynthesis and cellular respiration are interrelated?
A. Oxygen is produced during cellular respiration and stored during photosynthesis.
B. Carbon dioxide and water released by cellular respiration are used in photosynthesis.
C. Photosynthesis releases the energy that is stored during the process of
cellular respiration.
D. Glucose is used during cellular respiration to produce food that is broken down
during photosynthesis.
