Even though the Civil War ended in 1865, racial discrimination is still an issue from the past and in the present day, and is still an issue about denying individual rights. The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963 by Christopher Paul Curtis is an example of this discrimination. In the story The Watsons Go To Birmingham-1963, the members of the Watson family were shocked to find prejudice during their stay in Alabama in 1963. This book takes place during 1963, during a horrible event that's known as the Birmingham Bombing. The Birmingham bombing was the bombing of the church on 16'h street in Birmingham, Alabama, due to racial discrimination. This atrocious event left people shocked with the prttiudice happening in their own town. Another example of racial prejudice was the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. on April4'\ 1968 by James Earl Ray. Martin Luther King Jr. was a model for civil rights activists everywhere with his speech with the everlasting words " I have a dream" on August 28'\ 1963 is remembered today, and should be followed, just as he would've wanted it to be. We are trying to fulfill Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream ever since that day he spoke those words. James Earl Ray was an awful bigot who supported prejudice, and he (and anyone else who hated Martin Luther King Jr.) hates America, and everything around the World, because we're all created equal, and whether we are black, white, Hispanic, or Asian, we are all people who have the same rights. Acts of prejudice are still happening today, not just against African American people, people of the Muslim origin have also been discriminated against. In ahnost all countries, verbal insults towards Muslims have been reported in the days after the bombing of the twin towers on September 11th, 2001. The verbal attacks have included direct verbal attacks (general accusations and verbal harassment) and abusive graffiti on walls oflslamic buildings. In particular direct verbal attacks have been reported to be frequent in schools against Muslim people. This type of discrimination is completely wrong. Students and especially teachers shouldn't be allowed to be discriminate against pupils of another religion, origin or even skin color. In conclusion, racial prejudice shouldn't be allowed because we are all God's creatures, and each one of us is created equal. That's why I enjoyed The Watsons Go To Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis, not because the book was enjoying to read (even though it was anyway), but because it showed the truth. Racial discrimination is very wrong, but it did happen, and is still happening today. Even though this is true, Curtis's book still shows the truth about racial discrimination throughout the world. Hopefully one day, racial discrimination will end, and peace on earth will be accomplished. A$ Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that".
