Course Description:
The student will get an introduction to various skills, methods, and techniques related to basic web page design.
The student will be required to utilize a number of learned web design skills as well as real-life aptitudes such as
reading, writing, imagination, self-expression, problem solving, attention to detail, work ethic, follow through, and
communication skills. The student will incorporate the use of various computer programs, like Safari, Firefox,
TextEdit, Word for Mac, Pages, iWeb, Wix.com, Adobe Dreamweaver, and other Web-Based design programs, to
perform these project-based web designs.
Course Overview:
Welcome to Web Design. In this course, we will learn and apply numerous multimedia applicative skills in learning
about web design. We will use iMac computers, including the following programs: Safari, Firefox, TextEdit, Word for
Mac, Pages, iWeb, Wix.com, Adobe Dreamweaver, & other online sources. The course will help you create, format,
edit, design, and produce websites and web pages using HTML language. A certification offering in Adobe
Dreamweaver’s web authoring will be available.
Major Instructional Goals for course:
GOAL 1: Describe why technology makes a workplace an ever-changing entity as well as a lifelong learning
situation for employees.
GOAL 2: Demonstrate the ability to create, edit, save, revise, and print with various web design programs.
GOAL 3: Discuss the employability for individuals who possess skills to work with web design.
GOAL 4: Utilize advanced features of various web design software programs to create web pages & sites.
GOAL 5: Create, edit, save, and revise a complete web site.
GOAL 7: Demonstrate the organization or structure of formal elements in a composition / the combination of details
or features of a composition.
GOAL 8: Edit Paragraph, documents, and reports for correct spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors utilizing
electronic equipment.

Methods of assessment such as daily grades, project-based grades, multiple choice assessments, open response
items with rubrics, simulation games, tests/quizzes, and writing prompts may be used.

Formulas, Data tables, Lists, Sorting, Filters, Templates, Wizards, Thesaurus, Grammar Check, Format, Management,
Teamwork, Cooperative Teams, Team Development, Cover Page, Slide Transitions, Graphical Bullets, Customized
Backgrounds, Problem-Solving, Faxes, Social Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Employment Skills
Classroom Procedures & Materials:

Students are allotted only 3 hall passes per Nine Week Period

Enter the class in a quiet manner.

Read and follow the whiteboard’s directives/Log onto computer (Edmodo.com will be used at times)

A class tardy will follow the school policy.

Turn in assignment to either designated tray, designated online folder, or designated web program.

Students are responsible for making up any work while missing days.

Students will have an opportunity to make up any work they have missed for excused absences.

Always have pencil & paper available.

Have a notebook or binder to keep assignments

NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED!!

NO FLASH DRIVES ARE ALLOWED!! Failure to comply may cause student to lose all computer privileges the
remainder of the school year—thus, jeopardizing course grade.
Grading Policy and Scale:
Grades in this course will be set up on a points scale. Summative grades will count 60% & Formative grades will
count 40%. Below is a basic scale of point assignments:

Absences & Make-up Work: SEE STUDENT HANDBOOK ON SCHOOL POLICY
With this course being computer-related and since not all students have computers or internet access, reasonable
due will be given and discussed between teacher & student of excused, missed computer assignments (this
excludes paper assignments).
NOTE: This syllabus may be subject to change at the discretion of the teacher to accommodate time constraints, etc.
