Transcript
Desert
Area of land with too little rainfall to support much plant life.
Tundra
A vast, treeless plain in the cold arctic regions.
Rainforest
A type of thick evergreen forest found in areas of heavy rainfall. There is one whenever there is
land at the equator.
Seasons
Changes of weather due to revolution of the Earth.
Ring of Fire
A circle of volcanic mountains that surrounds the Pacific Ocean, including those on the islands
of Japan and Indonesia, in the Cascades of North America, and in the Andes of South America
Weathering
Weathering is the breaking down of rocks, soils and minerals through contact with the Earth's
atmosphere and water.
Erosion
The gradual wearing away of Earth’s surface by the action of wind, water, ice and gravity.
Ocean currents
A fast-moving river-like flow of water in the ocean created by the Earth’s rotation.
Wind currents
Ways that the wind flows over the Earth.
Plate Tectonics
The theory that Earth’s crust is made of huge, slowly moving slabs of rock called plates.
Climate
The pattern of weather over a long period of time.
Polar
Found in the high Latitudes. No trees, only low shrubs and grasses (Tundra) and is cold year
round.
Temperate/Moderate
Found in the Middle Latitudes. Has seasonal changes, forests with trees that loose leaves, and
has animals that migrate.
Tropical
Found in the Low Latitudes. Hot and wet climate with Tropical Rainforests that have thousands
of plants and trees.
High Latitudes
Between 66 ½ S and South Pole. Also 66 ½ N and North Pole.
Middle Latitudes
Between 23 ½ S and 66 ½ S. Also 23 ½ N and 66 ½ N.
Low latitudes
Between 23 ½ S and 23 ½ N.
Revolution
One complete trip by Earth around the sun.
