Before Renaissance, the art in the Middle Age was centered 4
around mythological and scriptural events without any expression
of real life. The movement of Renaissance emancipated the art from
religious restrictions. The art became human centred, depicting
human feelings and emotions. This was reflected in various forms
of art.
(1) Painting : The Renaissance paintings had the expressions that
indicated the love of freedom, love of beauty, affinity to nature
and humanitarian approach. The Renaissance painters minutely
studied human anatomy, the muscles and joints of human body
in action. Some famous Renaissance painters were Leonardo
da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, etc.
(2) Sculpture : Renaissance sculpture was greatly influenced by
Greek and Roman style of art. The statues of David and Moses
by Michelangelo, the statues of St. George and St. Mark are
immortal sculptures of Renaissance Age.
(3) Architecture : Renaissance architecture was a beautiful
combination of Greek, Roman and Arabic architectural style.
There was synthesis of Greek pillars, Roman arches and Irani
domes in Renaissance style of architecture. The Florence
cathedral by Filippo Brunelleschi and Bramante, St. Peter’s
Cathedral by Michelangelo and Raphael are some of the
examples of Renaissance architecture.
