9.1 Mathematical Patterns

patterns found in a sequence and use a formula to find the nth
term of a sequence.

Examples Write an explicit formula for each sequence. Find the
tenth term.
1.) 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ...
2.) 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, ...
3.) 1, 4, 9, 16, ...
4.) 3, 7, 11, 15, 19, ...

Sometimes you can see the pattern in a sequence by comparing
each term to the one that came before it. When this happens, we

A recursive defintion contains two parts:
