Cast Coil Transformers
Over the last half century, WEG has positioned itself as an industry leading supplier of electric motors, automation
products, power transformers, and substation equipment. Now, WEG is doing it again by releasing their latest
product in the transformers line: WEG cast coil transformers. Why choose WEG? Because WEG WILL!
Demand for electricity has increased dramatically over the years. WEG cast coil transformers are designed to
work under harsh operating conditions while reducing installation and maintenance costs. The cast resin design
allows for higher short circuit strength and overload capacity. WEG cast coil transformers are designed for
commercial and industrial applications such as oil & gas plants, pulp & paper mills, industrial operations, wind
farms, hospitals, airports, and business centers. Ratings are available through 3,000 kVA and 34.5 kV with
thermal insulation ratings through class C (220° C).
Features
WEG cast coil transformers are safe, environmentally friendly
transformers. Key features include:
• Flawless operation under harsh environmental conditions
• Fire safe (no insulating mineral oil)
• Reduced installation costs – no fire protection or oil
containment required
• No risk of contaminant leakage or toxic gas emissions
• High resistance to short circuits and high capacity to
support overload
• Lower partial discharges and higher safety rating
Transformer Construction
Core
The transformer core is manufactured with grain-oriented magnetic steel, with high magnetic permeability, low losses,
and insulated on both sides by a thin layer of organic material (carlyte). The cutting and assembly is performed at 45°
angles using the step lap method to reduce losses, excitation current, and magnetic noise.
Low Voltage Coils
The low voltage coils are made with copper or aluminum foil with a thermal insulation system designed per operating
conditions F, H, or C. The coils are pre-impregnated with epoxy resin, an excellent adhesive, which provides an
optimum coil insulation and high mechanical strength. Winding leads are mechanically anchored, making them
practical, compact and easily accessed for field maintenance.
High Voltage Coils
High voltage coils display excellent resistance to load variations, changes in temperature, corrosive substances and
fire. Windings are made of laminated foils and have a low partial discharge level and provide excellent resistance to
axial forces caused by short circuits. High voltage regulation is performed by switching external jumpers easily
accessible on the back of the coils. Insulated copper or aluminum bars are used to connect coils.

Cast Coil Transformers
Cast coil transformers are certified with C2, E2, or F1
ratings. Ratings depend on the transformer
installation conditions.
WEG cast coil transformers meet all applicable
international standards such as:
• IEEE-C57.12.01
• C2 transformers are suitable for operating
temperatures as low as -25° C
• ANSI-C89.2
• IEC-60076-11
• E2 transformers are suitable for operation in high
levels of humidity (up to 95%)
• IEC-726-11
• UL 1562
• F1 transformers are suitable for operation in highly
flammable areas. In the event of a failure, F1
transformers extinguish coil fires after the feed
circuit has been opened.
WEG cast coil transformers are suitable for installation
in a wide variety of applications; including:
• Wind farms applications
• Buildings and skyscrapers
