Job Description
Job Title:
Postdoctoral Research Assistant (Medicinal Chemist)
Line Manager:
Prof. S A Ward
Job Aim:
To work with a team of biologists, pharmacologists and
medicinal chemists (including Scientists at the University of
Liverpool supervised by Prof P O’Neil) involved in the
discovery and development of novel peroxide drug
candidates targeting malaria.
Competencies:
Experience in Organic Chemistry/ Medicinal Chemistry.
Summary of role:
The successful applicant will be part of a small chemistry
team involved in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry and
chromatographic separations and purification
Main duties:
 Take a leading role in the generation of novel routes of synthesis of peroxide
based chemical entities towards the project’s milestones/deliverables
 Design and synthesis of target compounds identified within the group using
heterocyclic/aromatic synthetic chemistry approaches
 Monitor literature for application of best practices and methodologies
 Responsible for the accurate recording, dissemination and archiving of chemistry
data in line with industry standards
 Take a role in the preparation and writing of scientific reports and peer-reviewed
publications
 Assisting with the daily running of the medicinal chemistry facilities
 Perform 1H/13C NMR and LC MS and HPLC
 Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and communication of
methodologies and data to other members of the group
 Responsible for working in a safe manner adhering to local and legal
requirements
 Any other duties commensurate with the role
