Assassination:
10: Date and time of Lincoln’s death (4/15/65 7:22am)
20: Name of play Lincoln was attending and in what theatre (Our American Cousin, Ford’s
theatre)
30: John Wilkes Booth caught his spur on what, broke what when he leapt to the stage, and
yelled what once on stage? (flag, left shin/leg, sic semper tyrannis or the south is avenged)
40: How and where did they capture Booth and what were his last words (in tobacco barn, set it
on fire, shot him in the neck, useless, useless)
**50: Describe Booth’s master plan to take down the govt.-- who did he and his men plan to
kill that night besides Lincoln? (kill VP Johnson, kill sec. of state seward-- also Grant if he was

30: date of surrender, city, state, and specific place within city (April 9, 1865, Appomattox
Court House VA, McLean’s parlor)
40: Any two facts about the surrender at App. with the exception of how they were dressed
(Which general was late getting to the meeting? How did the two men know one another?
How did grant react when lee surrendered? Grant asked Lee for surrender)

never to fight against country again/swear allegiance to north, confeds have to give up arms and

50: After what battle did Lincoln issue the emanc. Proc (he had been waiting for a victory)?
What was the emancip. Proc.? What was its impact on the N/how did it change the war for
them? What impact did the emanc proc have on the S? (Antietam, freed slaves in S, n=changed
meaning of war, S= nothing…but knew if they lost slavery was done-- a harbinger of things to
come)
