Digestion Comic Strip Assignment
Objective: Students will illustrate and describe the path of food through the digestive system. The
students will explain how the food is broken down and absorbed in the digestive system.
You will pretend to be any food of your choice and illustrate your journey through the digestive
system. BE CREATIVE! Describe what is happening to you at each stage. You must include the
following terms in your illustration:
Mechanical digestion, chemical digestion, salivary glands, tongue, esophagus , stomach, chyme,
hydrochloric acid, liver, villi, small intestines, large intestines, rectum, and anus.
You must include the following in your illustration:
Mechanical and chemical breakdown in the mouth and stomach, the journey down the esophagus,
entrance into the stomach, hydrochloric acid in the stomach, churning in the stomach, chyme
entering the small intestine, absorption by the villi in the small intestine, and what happens in the
large intestine.
