... The isolation of the gene responsible for cystic fibrosis has opened up the reality of genetic screening. A simple test of a person's saliva, costing about the price of a newspaper, allows identification of carriers (people who have one healthy and one faulty copy of the gene)-though only with about ...

beautiful bicolours - tuxedo and magpie cats

... There are quite possibly several genes which influence white spotting. For example, the patterns above might not be due to a single gene - there may be several other genes which modify its effects. There are also other piebald patterns which appear to be due to different genes or to cats being homoz ...

... As you know, only one sperm and one egg can participate in fertilization. Any of the four sperm can potentially fertilize an egg, but the development of female gametes is slightly different. Only one of the four daughter cells will develop into an egg cell. The other three aren’t functional and are ...

Molecular Evolution, Mutation Size and Gene Pleiotropy

... results, we developed a model of molecular evolution on the basis of the FGM to study the relationship between evolutionary rate and both the size of mutational effects of proteins and gene pleiotropy. The FGM is particularly useful to study the evolutionary consequences of the complexity of mutatio ...

In S. cerevisiae, expression of the regulatory amino terminal domain of adenylyl cyclase dominantly interferes with normal adenylyl cyclase activity, presumably by binding to regulatory proteins (Field et aL., 1990b). NEDD9

Neural precursor cell expressed developmentally down-regulated protein 9 (NEDD-9) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the NEDD9 gene. NEDD-9 is also known as enhancer of filamentation 1 (EF1), CRK-associated substrate-related protein (CAS-L), and Cas scaffolding protein family member 2 (CASS2). An important paralog of this gene is BCAR1.
