Specific Growth Inhibition by Acetate of an Escherichia coli Strain

... (March et al., 1988; Chen et al., 1990). Era is both cytosolic and associated with membrane and autophosphorylated in a GTP-dependent manner (Lin et al., 1994; Sood et al., 1994). Era was originally found in E. coli (Ahnn et al., 1986) and has been shown to be highly conserved not only in prokaryote ...

Effect of lithium and sodium cations on the

... Monovalent cations are very important in yeast metabolism. However, high internal concentrations of Na+ or its analogue Li+ are generally toxic to cells [1]. Lithium is highly toxic to yeast when grown in galactose medium, mainly because phosphoglucomutase, a key enzyme of galactose metabolism, is i ...

can detect white spot syndrome virus (wssv

... White spot syndrome (WSS) is one of the most serious diseases in penaeid shrimp farming world wide. It is caused by white spot syndrome virus (WSSV). Mortality rates can reach 100% within 3-10 days after outbreaks begin. The first report was from Taiwan in 1992.1 Later the disease was reported from ...

The best target might be the transport of phytochelatin-metal complexes into the vacuole, which in fission yeast is mediated by an ABC-type transporter, Hmt1 [39]. Magnesium transporter

This page links directly from the magnesium in biological systems page.Magnesium transporters are proteins that transport magnesium across the cell membrane. All forms of life require magnesium, yet the molecular mechanisms of Mg2+ uptake from the environment and the distribution of this vital element within the organism are only slowly being elucidated. In bacteria, Mg2+ is probably mainly supplied by the CorA protein and, where the CorA protein is absent, by the MgtE protein. In yeast the initial uptake is via the Alr1p and Alr2p proteins, but at this stage the only internal Mg2+ distributing protein identified is Mrs2p. Within the protozoa only one Mg2+ transporter (XntAp) has been identified. In metazoa, Mrs2p and MgtE homologues have been identified, along with two novel Mg2+ transport systems TRPM6/TRPM7 and PCLN-1. Finally, in plants, a family of Mrs2p homologues has been identified along with another novel protein, AtMHX.
