Job Description
Licensed Practical Nurse/Medical Assistant
Definition: Responsible for performing health screening activities and assisting with patient education
under the direction of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician. Provides laboratory
assistance in routine laboratory work-ups, follow up, and recording results. Provides clerical and
administrative assistance as needed.
Duties
 Assists the ARNP or Physician as directed; prepares patient for examination; takes initial and
annual health histories with ARNP or Physician review; checks weight, height, blood pressure;
performs dip-stick urinalysis, hemoglobin, venipuncture, and pregnancy tests; distributes medication
as directed; assists with patient education as directed.
 Provides Depo Provera injections as directed by MD and/or ARNP.
 Records laboratory testing done and laboratory results received; assists with laboratory follow-up as
directed by the ARNP or Physician. Assists with pap follow-ups and referrals.
 Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment in examination rooms with special
consideration to cleanliness; disinfects exam room surfaces following clinic sessions.
 Conducts contraceptive and drug inventories as directed; completes monthly inventory reports and
restocks clinic supplies as needed.
 Maintains patient medical records as appropriate, including documenting medical records received
from other facilities as well as copying and sending records to other facilities as requested.
 Performs quarterly chart audits as directed.
 Performs varied medical and clerical duties as directed.
 Performs general office reception duties when required.
 Performs other medical and/or administrative duties associated with assisting the professional staff
and administrative staff as directed.
Desired Qualifications: Ability to accurately assess patient needs and maintain constructive
relationships in dealing with these needs. Knowledge of or ability to gain knowledge of contraceptive
methods and related areas of reproductive health. Knowledge of medical and general office practices
and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other
agencies, and the public.
Minimum Requirements: Must be registered with the North Dakota Board of Nursing as a Licensed
Practical Nurse, or an unlicensed assistive person with a Medication Assistant III certificate. Medical
Assistant must be certified or eligible for certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants.

Salary Range: $12.00-$17.00/hour (annual salary equivalent $24,000-$35,000)
