Job Title Water Plant Supervisor
Reports To
Local Manager
Job Summary:
This is skilled, administrative, and supervisory work directing the water treatment plant
operations. The work is performed under the general supervision of the local manager.
Essential Functions/Work Performed Statements:
This list is not comprehensive, but indicates duties and responsibilities which may be
redefined pursuant to operational needs:
Supervises plant operation and maintenance activities including any and/or all treatment
and pumping facilities.
Assists in budget preparation; monitors operation and maintenance expenditures.
Implements policies and procedures according to company specifications.
Supervises or performs accurate and timely water quality studies and data collection for
compliance to DNR regulations; maintains records on water quality, production,
operation, and maintenance expenses.
Performs inspections on plant operations and activities including equipment, maintenance
and safety related issues; recommends replacements and specifications for new
equipment; orders materials and equipment within appropriate authority.
Assists in preparation of monthly reports; maintains and updates manuals and files.
Observes water conditions; supervises or conducts water quality testing using standard
methods for water examination.
Ensures system operations and water quality comply with federal, state, local, and
company regulations.
Calculates calibrations for lab test equipment; files reports on water production totals;
conducts studies to ensure accuracy, and determines corrective action.
Assists in public relations events and plant tours; maintains positive relationships with
co-workers, clients, customers, vendors, and general public.
Develops and implements schedules, training, and procedures for operators.
Supervises, assigns, reviews, and evaluates employees’ work including reports, time
sheets, and personnel documents; assists in hiring, training, and counseling employees.
Maintains required inventory of all materials and supplies; purchases materials following
company guidelines.

Assures proper safety standards and precautions are followed; implements effective safety
training according to company and OSHA compliance regulations.
Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities-Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school and five years of experience in water treatment, operation,
and maintenance, including considerable supervisory experience; or any equivalent
combination of education and experience which would provide the following knowledge,
skills and abilities:
Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of water
treatment activities.
Knowledge of state and federal standards and regulations governing water system
operations.
Knowledge of safety standards and precautions related to water treatment.
Knowledge of effective supervisory practices and techniques.
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment associated with water treatment.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply laboratory and statistical data.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, clients,
vendors, and the general public.
Knowledge of electricity and electronics.
Possess or the ability to possess a valid Missouri driver’s license or an appropriate level
CDL as necessary.
Possess an appropriate level certification in water and/or wastewater as necessary per
division.
Ability to be on-call after hours and weekends.
