Daily Life in Ancient Greece and Rome Objective Students will use the Internet to research daily life in ancient Greece and Rome. They will use a word processing program to create paragraphs describing what they have learned. Task Ask students to visit Web sites to gather information about ancient Greek and Roman housing, clothing, food, family life, recreation, education, business and work, holidays, and religion. Have them discuss their findings and write paragraphs from the point of view of ancient Greeks and Romans. Suggest that they write additional paragraphs describing some of the things the Romans borrowed from the Greeks. Class Time 2-3 class periods 1. What do you think it would have been like to live in ancient Greece and Rome? Why do you think the Romans borrowed some ideas from Greek culture? 2. Make table with three columns, one labeled “Category”, another labeled "Ancient Greece" and the last labeled "Ancient Rome." 3. Visit the Web sites below to find out what life was like in ancient Greece and Rome. As you explore the sites, create a row in your table for each category of daily life as follows: housing, clothing, food, family life, recreation, education, business and work, holidays, and religion. Under the appropriate Greek or Roman column, type your notes on these features of daily life. 4. Using your notes, create a paper that compares and contrasts the various elements of Greek and Roman daily life. The paper should contain an introductory paragraph, at least one paragraph for each category, and a concluding paragraph. 5. Include your sources in appropriate MLS format on a second page. 6. There should be an appropriate heading on the top of the paper.
