June 2, 2016
Dear Students,
You did it! You made it to JUNE 2nd! You all worked hard and deserve a
fabulous break. But in between swimming, camping, traveling, etc. please
remember all we’ve learned about place value, time, multiplication, division,
geometry, and fractions. The math next year and in the upper grades will
continue to build on the foundation of what we just accomplished in third
grade. Remember, without this strong foundation, future success in math is
going to be difficult. This is why I have put together the Summer 2016 Math
Program. Please work a little each week to complete these review
problems. Why? Because you’ll be better able to retain the math facts and
abilities you acquired over the past year and you will be ready for a rigorous
course of mathematics this Fall.
Also, please continue with your nightly 3-5 minutes of practice with Flash
Cards. This is extremely important. You may think, “But I already KNOW
my math facts!” That is terrific! Let’s make sure you don’t FORGET them
between now and August! You can practice anywhere, anytime. During
road trips, waiting in an airport, floating around on a raft in the pool –
anywhere! In fourth grade, you will need to be able to recall these math
facts quickly and automatically. Please practice everyday.
Trust me, you will be a much happier student in the Fall if you spend regular
time this summer revisiting and working with these mathematical concepts.
If you don’t remember the vocabulary included in this packet you may easily
look it up online. Bring the yellow packet back in August fully completed
and you will receive a Math Certificate of Completion.
Have a safe and enjoyable summer!
Sincerely,
Ms. Dooling
