DENSITY FACTORS Some controls on populations have an impact independent of the population’s density (density independent controls): 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Overall there are four common patterns of population fluctuations: 1. stable: the population stays pretty close to the carrying capacity. 2. At one time most biologists accepted the top-down control hypothesis.
