Alfred Russel Wallace Presented by: Codie O’Neil About him Wallace was born in Wales on January 8th 1823 and died at the age of 90 on November 7th 1913. He did not attend university He studied and worked in land surveying with his older brother. Grammar School Before Before Wallace and Darwin developed the theory, most people believed evolution was all a gods creation. The Theory of Natural Selection changed the way scientist think, then and now. Contributions On his own, Wallace had the idea of evolution by the theory of natural selection A very similar one to Charles Darwins Relation with Charles Darwin Wallace and Darwin communicated over the years as Darwin was gathering information on his theory Wallace wanted Darwin's help in publishing his theory He sent Darwin a letter containing his ideas Contributions Wallace wrote a paper on the theory of natural selection which was published with some of Charles Darwin’s work in 1858. Theory of Natural Selection The Theory of natural selection is that in any generation, some individuals are more likely to live and reproduce than others. There are factors to the theory that need to be proven true to call it evolution. That factors are: - Ability to reproduce - Different characteristics between individuals - Gain characteristics from parents (mutations & adaptations) Places Traveled Wallace has been to many places, some if these include: - England (1837) - South America (1848) - South East Asia (1854) - London (1862) - Dorset (1889) Awards Copley Medal (1908) Linnean Medal (1892) Founder’s Gold Medal (1892) Royal Medal (1868) His Death & Memorial By the end of his life , Wallace was known is places all over.
