- 1 moon
- 8 official planets + Pluto:

3) Earth
4) Mars
5) Jupiter
6) Saturn

The Sun
 The Sun's name comes from the Romans who called it Sol
 It is a star - it is not a planet
 It is so big that you could fit more than 1 million earths inside of it!
It measures more than a million kilometers across.
Mercury
 is the planet closest to our Sun, and it is the eighth largest of the nine
planets
 is a small, rocky planet
 the temperature ranges from 90 K to 700 K.
 recent radar information shows evidence of ice at Mercury's north
pole
 Mercury has no moons
Venus
 Venus is the second planet from the Sun
 It’s the earth’s sister, because the 2 planets are very close in size and
gravity
 is a small, rocky planet with yellowish clouds
 it’s the hottest planet in the solar system
 Venus has no moon
 it is the second brightest of the planets after the moon
Earth
 Earth is the third planet from the Sun
 It is only planet which supports a variety of life
 It’s called the ‘ goldilocks planet ‘, because it’s not too hot and not to
cold
 it is the densest major body in the solar system. This means that it's
the most "compact" of all the planets
 it is 4.5 to 4.6 billion years old
 71 % of the Earth's surface is covered with water.. Water is essential
for life
 it is orbited by one moon
 Earth is the only planet whose English name does not derive from
Greek or Roman mythology. The name comes from Old English and
Germanic language
Moon
 The Moon is the Earth's only natural satellite. It is the second
brightest object in the sky after the sun
 It was first visited by the Soviet spacecraft Luna 2 in 1959.
 The first landing was on July 20, 1969.
 The last time we visited the Moon was in December 1972. The
Moon is also the only body from which samples have been returned
to Earth.
 Its surface is covered with regolith, a mixture dust and rocky debris
produced by meteor impacts.
 It has no atmosphere
 What happens during a lunar eclipse? The Moon passes through the
Earth's shadow. The reddish-copper coloration comes from the
sunlight being deflected through the Earth's atmosphere
Mars






is a small, rocky planet which is cold and lifeless.
It’s known as the red planet because of its atmosphere
It is the fourth planet from the Sun, and the seventh largest
Scientists think people could live on Mars
There are 2 special robots exploring the surface of Mars
It has 2 moons
Jupiter




is a giant gas planet
it is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest of all nine planets
It's 318 times bigger than the Earth
It’s the third brightest object in the night sky. Only Venus and the
Moon are brighter
 It has 67 moons
Saturn
 is the sixth planet from the Sun, and the second largest of the nine
planets
 is a giant gas planet
 It's most famous for its beautiful rings
 It has 60 moons
 Saturn is the root of the English word "Saturday.
 Saturn's rings are very bright
Uranus
 is the seventh planet from the Sun and the third largest of the nine
planets




it is a giant gas planet
it has rings around it
it has 27 moons
it is covered in blue clouds made of methane which give it its lovely
color
Neptune
 It is the eighth planet from the Sun and the fourth largest
 is a giant gas planet made up of various "ices" and rock, it also
looks blue…
 it has 14 moons
 it takes over 164 years to finish an orbit around the sun
 it has the longest orbit of any planet in the solar system
Pluto
 was discovered in 1930
 the ninth planet in the solar system
 is a small, icy "dwarf planet", the smallest of all
