The Cell Analogy Book Project
Due Date:
For the cell analogy book, you and a partner will produce a book that compares a plant or animal cell to
either an object or a place. If you are comparing a cell to an object, you must make appropriate analogies
between the structures of the cell and the parts of the object you choose. If you are comparing a cell to a
place, you must compare the parts of the cell to the various parts of your place.
NOTE: Your analogies must make sense and relate to the actual function of the cell part you are
describing.
For example, if you are comparing a cat to an animal cell, you could describe the plasma membrane as
the skin of the cat, the nucleus as the brain of the cat, the cytoskeleton as the bones of the cat, and the
mitochondria as the food the cat eats. The more detail and creativity you use the better! You will be
graded on completeness as well as the accuracy of the analogies you make.
You must choose at least 8 structures of the cell and compare each one to a part of your object or a site
of your location. Each page of your book must include the following:
1. A title
2. Neat, hand drawn, and colorful pictures of the cell structure and the object part or site you are
comparing it to.
3. A typed paragraph that clearly and completely explains the following:
 the function of the object part
 the function of the cell structure you are comparing it to
 why you are able to make the comparison
In addition, your book must have a colorful and neat cover that includes the
following:
1. A title: The Cell is like a
.
2. The first and last names of both partners
3. Your period and the date the assignment is due
4. Some sort of colored drawing
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING:
 All descriptions must be typed and checked for spelling and grammar mistakes.
HANDWRITTEN DESCRIPTIONS WILL NOT BE GRADED.
 DO NOT try to do this all in one night. Break up the project into small pieces and plan ahead.
 Your project is due in class on the due date whether or not you are in class. If you know you
are going to be absent on the due date, you can always turn it in early. If you are absent
unexpectedly, you must have your partner, a parent, friend, or sibling deliver the project for
you.
 A printer/computer breaking down the night before the assignment is due (even with a letter
from a parent/guardian) will not excuse the project being due on the due date. YOUR
PRINTER IS NOT THE ONLY PRINTER AVAILABLE! Plan ahead so you can make
arrangements to print elsewhere if needed.
 Late work will NOT be accepted for any reason.
