DVRHS All Sports Booster Club Minutes October 14, 2013 2012-2013 Officers: Janet Comerford – President Michele Baran – Vice President Treasurer -- Vacant Peggy Mikulicz – Recording Secretary (absent) Cathy Ferraro – Corresponding Secretary (absent) Chairpersons: Janet Comerford – Spirit Items Call to Order – Janet Comerford called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm and initiated the Flag Salute. Secretary’s Report – The September Secretary’s report was presented. Michele Baran moved to approve the September report and it was seconded by Dawn Augustine. Treasurer’s Report – The September report was presented. Dawn Augustine moved to approve the September Treasurer’s Report and it was seconded by Sandy DelGreco. NEW BUSINESS Fall Sports: Cheerleading – Sports Rep Patti Cohen The girls are getting ready for competition and doing lots of fundraising for Florida. November 9th they will be hosting Del Val Challenge, which Janet has been working on obtaining proper licensing to hold a 50/50 raffle. November 13 will be their first cheer competition at Ridge High School. Football – Sports Rep Linda Romaine Varsity 2-2, next game is Friday against Somerville JV - 1-2 Freshman 1-3 Girls Soccer – Sports Rep Mary Ann Blanke The record for the Girls varsity Soccer team is 5-5-2. This includes their 2-0 victory over Lenape Valley High School in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament on Saturday. They will move on in the tournament and play Hunterdon Central High School away this Saturday (10/19/13). Coach Cariddi reports that the team is playing very good team soccer, passing and controlling the play very well. They are much improved over the 1-13-1 record of last year. The Senior Recognition game is tomorrow, Tuesday vs. Warren Hills. Four seniors will be honored before the game. They are Jackie Aimino, Kelly Jacobs Ariana Malaspina and Carly Potomic. At halftime they will be retiring former player Cathy Abel # 13 jersey. Cathy played for Del Val from 1998-2002. She was a senior forward in 2002 and scored a school record 36 goals that autumn as she led the Terriers to a 20-2-3 record and a share of the NJSIAA Group 2 State Championship. JV: The record is 3-4-2. Coach White is happy with the way the team is playing and also reports that 2 of the 4 losses were in overtime. Freshman: The record for the freshman is 0-5-1. Four if the five losses have been a 1 goal differential. There are 23 freshmen playing soccer but two are primarily varsity players and 6 players, play JV as well as freshman games. Coach Huzar plays everyone on his team and everyone gets at least 30-35 minutes of total playing time. Boys Soccer – Sports Rep Leigh Geissler Varsity – 2-10; senior recognition is Monday, October 14 JV - ? Freshmen – 2-3-1 Field Hockey – Sports Rep Leigh Anne Cascio No report Girls Cross Country – Sports Rep Cyndi McDowall Hannah Bonaguidi ran 20:08 making her the 5th fastest Del Val on our home course, she is a sophomore. She is also the female athlete of the month of September. 5 Girls are currently running sub 23:00(below 23:00). If 7 girls can do this Thursday Coach Hagy will shave lightning bolts in the side of his head (without his wife’s approval) 15 out of 27 girls have enough points to earn their Varsity letter. Madeline Yannuzzi ran a 22:26 to become the 10th fastest freshman on Del Val’s home course. Boys Cross Country – Sports Rep Paul Sterbenz Here is the summary of the boy’s country team’s activities through October 13th: There are 38 boys on the team. The team participated in dual meets on September 11, 18, and 25 and October 2 and 9. The September 25th and October 9thmeets were at home. The team participated in several regional meets including the Bernie Magee Invitational on September 21st at Warinaco Park in Roselle Park, the Stewart Invitational on September 28th at Warinaco Park in Roselle Park and the Shore Coaches Cross Country Invitational on October 5th at Holmdel Park. The team will be participating in the Hunterdon/ Warren/ Sussex Championships on Thursday, October 17th at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. The team will be participating in the Skylands Conference Championships on Thursday, October 24th at Natirer Park in Peapack-Gladstone. The Senior Recognition Dinner for the team will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd at 5:30 PM in the cafeteria at the school. Volleyball – Sports Rep Renee Skibinski Varsity 8 wins, 7 Losses JV 9 wins, 6 losses Membership – currently 117 Del Val Spirit Wear – * Delivered: Football, Boy’s Soccer, Girl’s Soccer, Field Hockey, Girl’s Cross Country, and Class of 2017 clothing. * Homecoming – Booster Club will not be doing the shirts this year Fundraising Field Enhancement Project: Still receiving orders. Viridian: no change Athletic Director Athetic Director, Bill Deniz came to meeting and advised us that the Pep Rally was Friday during 8th period. Winter Pep rally is going to be tied with a student facility basketball game. Spring Pep Rally is going to consist of a dodge ball game. Discussion took place that basketball games are moving to 6PM and could be as early as 5:45PM. Parents are talking with AD to try to keep the same time as in years past. This is too early for parents. Saturday basketball games would be back to back to back. Awards night was also discussed. Bill will e-mail Janet with a date. Ticket Booth near the football field should be arriving any day now. Soccer bleachers—The concrete pad was poured just waiting on installation. The athletic department is looking to change the championship banners in the Hutch (gym). The new banners will recognize sports teams of their championship titles and allow for continuous updating in seasons to come. Treasurer – Motion was made by Janet to elect Lisa Amabile as the new treasurer; seconded by Sandy DelGreco. Flower Sale - Held in May. We need a new Chairperson for this event.
