Levels of Organization Pyramid
MOST COMPLEX
In organisms, there exists an increasing
level of organization of matter from
simple to complex. At some point the
level of complexity is enough to
support life. In the following
activity you will arrange the given
levels of complexity from simplest
to most complex.
Levels of Organization
Amino acids, fatty acids & glycerol, glucose, nucleotides
Cell
Hydrogen, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen
Nucleus of a cell
Organ
Proteins, fats, polysaccharides, DNA, RNA
Organ Systems
Tissue
Water, oxygen, carbon dioxide
Organism
Directions:
1. Study the list on the right of the
pyramid labeled “Levels of
Organization.” Each line is a
level.
2. Write each level in the triangle.
Place the simplest level at the
bottom and the most complex
at the top.
3. Draw a line through the pyramid
where life begins.
