Description:
Passed into law in September 2015, the new Environmental Reporting Act makes regular environmental
reporting mandatory for the government. Previously, the government's environmental reporting consisted
of ad hoc reports released without set timeframes. The Ministry for the Environment along with Statistics
New Zealand released a pilot report in October 2015.
The minimum wage for most employees aged 16 years or older rose on April 1st 2016, from NZ$14.75 to
NZ$15.25 per hour. The "starting-out" minimum wage rose on the same date, from NZ$11.80 to NZ$12.20
per hour.
During the first few months of 2016, the Commerce Commission granted clearance for several foreign
acquisitions of companies based overseas and with operations in New Zealand. These included transactions
involving firms in manufacturing, retail and telecommunications.
