Each part of speech explains how the word is used. not what the word means. In fact, the same word can be a noun in one sentence and a verb or adjective in the next. The Eight Parts of Speech Noun Pronoun Adverbs Prepositions Adjectives Conjunctions Verb Interjection Home Page SUBJECT Who or what the sentence is about The person, place, thing, or idea that is being talked about in the sentence The sixth-graders are having a blast.
