A shaking of the earth's surface/crust caused by the release of stress accumulated along geologic faults or by volcanic activity. The country that has the most reported earthquakes is called Tajikistan. It is a country of tall mountains located on the border of Afghanistan. An earthquake can cause a huge tidal wave called a tsunami. A tsunami can cause severe destruction and possibly death. What actually causes an earthquake? An earthquake is caused by the movement of tectonic plates. When these plates move it causes stress to the earth’s crust. This stress causes the crust to either shake or crack.
