life; includes the top portion of Earth’s
crust, all the waters that cover the Earth’s
surface, and the atmosphere that
surrounds Earth
 Ecosystem- consists of all the organisms
living in an area and the nonliving
features of their environment
 Ecology- the study of the interactions that
occur among organisms and their
environment
 Population- made up of all the organisms
in an ecosystem that belong to the same
species
 Community- all the populations in an
ecosystem
 Habitat- the place in which an organism
lives
Answers to Section 1
Assessment
 1. Biosphere is part of Earth that
supports life. It includes the top portion of
Earth’s crust, all the waters that cover the
Earth’s surface, and the atmosphere that
surrounds Earth.
 2. Ecology is the study of the interactions
that occur among organisms and their
environment.
 3. They both deal with life and where
organisms live.
 4. Population is organisms of a certain
species and community includes all the
organisms.
 5. Yes it does because different
organisms require different amounts of
rain to survive.
