First Environment
The first environment is
classified as
domestic/residential
areas.
That means where the
costumers are connected
directly to the public low
voltage mains.
Examples:
Houses, apartments, commercial premises or
offices in residential buildings

Second Environment
The second environment
is classified as industry
area.
That means where the
costumers has their own
transformer substation.
Examples:

Unrestricted Sales (first environment)
Sales to customers where the manufacturer/seller
estimates that sales is not depending on the
customer’s/user’s EMC-knowledge to the products and
there installation.
The units are installed and used by layman.
An example of this is sales via electric shops, machine
shops, rental companies, etc.
If the products are sold in this way, the supplier is
responsible for the EMC compliance.

Unrestricted Sales (second environment)
Sales to customers where the manufacturer/supplier estimates
that the customers, i.e. installation companies or end-users,
individually or altogether, have the technical competence to use
and install the products according the EMC requirements for the
application.
The units are installed and used by professional users.
An example of this is that the products are considered part of a
large system, and the system is to be EMC-approved.
If the products are sold in this way, the supplier must
provide a guide for installation and use.
The user/installer has the primary EMC responsibility and
shall follow the guidelines of the supplier.

Restricted Sales (first environment)
Sales to customers where the manufacturer/seller
estimates that the customers, i.e. wholesalers, installation
companies or end-users, individually or altogether, have
the technical competence to use and install the products
according to the EMC requirements for the application.
The units are installed and used by professional users.
An example of this is that the products are considered part
of a large system, and the system is to be EMC-approved.
If the products are sold in this way, it is the customer's
responsibility to make sure that the system as a whole
complies with the EMC requirements.

Restricted Sales (second environment)
Sales to customers where the manufacturer/seller estimates that the
customers, i.e. wholesalers, installation companies or end-users,
individually or altogether, have the technical competence to use and install
the products according to the EMC requirements for the application. The
units are installed and used by professional users.
Generally the limits for unrestricted sales shall be met.
Due technical reasons there are some applications where it is not possible
for the drives to comply with these limits.
These applications are as follows:
IT-networks in complex systems – current above 400A – Voltage above
1000V and where required dynamic performances will be limited because
of filtering.
If the drives are sold in this way, users and manufactures must agree on
an EMC/RFI plan to meet the EMC requirements of the intended
application.
•The user must define the EMC characteristics of the environment
incl. the whole installation and the neighbourhood.
•The manufacture shall provide information on typical emission
levels of the drive which is to be installed.
