Water and Land Biomes by: Jack Van Camp Grassland Biomes • Its tall grass protects animals from predators. • Dead grass turns into soil. • Animal populations change when there habitat changes. Locations are in the Midwest one big grassland stretches Mexico to Canada. Grey wolf Purple crocus Pine tree Whitetail deer Taiga Biomes • Needles help trees survive the cold condition. • Needles are leaves that make food for the tree. • The needles last out through the whole year. One Canada Taiga biomes goes all the way through Canada. moose Pine tree Mallard ducks Black bear Tundra Biomes • If a population grows larger than the carrying able capacity. • Than organisms will not be to meet their needs. • They will need to move to another area that has their needs. Most of them are found along the northern coasts of Canada. caribou Polar bears Desert Biomes • These roots quickly take up water. • To deal with high temperatures many animals rest during the day. • Some animals dig into the ground to cool. The largest deserts are found in northern Africa and southwest Asia. Bighorn sheep cactus bobcat coyote River Biomes • Different kinds of rivers have different kinds of organisms. • Some animals live only in the rivers that flow slowly. • They are not strong enough to live in the rivers that flow fast. The Mississippi river is the largest river in North America. walleye sturgeon seaweed bass Wetland Biomes • There are many kinds of wetlands. • A swamp is another kind of wetland with many trees and bushes. • Wetlands are very helpful in many ways. Many kinds of wetlands are all over found the world. alligator Lily pads leopard duck Coral Reef Biomes • Corals are animals that have a special related with algae. • Some algae carry on photosynthesis. • They will grow only in shallow warm waters. Coral reefs are very important ecosystems. Coral reef shark Elk horn stingray Clown fish Deep Sea Biomes • Sunlight can not reach these cold depths. • So plants can not grow. • Many animals eat dead plants and animals. The first deep sea vent was discovered in 1977 near the Galapagos Islands. Sword fish Angle fish Wahoo Nurse shark Tropical Rainforest Biomes •Tropical rainforest have the most species than all the other biomes. •Dozens of plant and animals live in trees. •Certain plants ,such as orchids, survive well. Tropical rainforests are found in all the continents except Europe. frog jaguar Coral snake elephant Deciduous Forest Biomes • Snakes and salamanders live under ground in the winter. • The rabbits color changes in the winter. • A population will get bigger.
