Transcript
Today: you will be able to identify the
different stages of the plant life cycle.
In your Science Journal:
• Conifer– a plant that makes seeds
inside cones.
• Fruit—the part of the plant that
contains the seeds.
• Life cycle—the series of changes that
a living thing goes through during its
lifetime.
• Seed—the first stage of most plans.
Plants have life cycles:
• A life cycle is the series of changes that a living
thing goes through during its lifetime.
• Seeds are the first stage of most plants. They
are produced when pollen is moved from one
part of the plant to the other.
• Read page 28 in book.
In your Science Journal: Make a
Graphic Organizer
Life Cycle of a Flowering Plant:
Example: a seed is
the first stage of
most plants.
In your Science workbook:
• Read pages 1415 and answer
the questions
on page 15.
Tuesday:
Planting a mystery seed.
• Today you will
observe and
participate in the
process of preparing
your own plant life
cycle.
In your Science Journal:
1. OBSERVE: in your science journal, make a
chart. Use a hand lens to closely look at your
seeds. Draw the seed and record your
observations.

Observations
Preparing to plant your seed:
• Today we will prepare to plant our seed.
• We will add dirt to our cups and observe our
seeds.
• Make a prediction to what kind of seed you
are planting and why you think it is that kind
of seed.
Wednesday: Conifers
Review:
• What does the roots do?
• What does a stem do?
• What do the leaves do on a plant?
– Air and sun
• What is a conifer?
• Define fruit.
• What is usually the first stage of a plant?
Conifers
• Read page 30 in your textbook.
• Conifers are plants that have cones rather
than fruits or flowers.
• Conifers use their cones to reproduce. Seeds
grow inside the cones.
Lets Review: On a piece of paper
• What are two things that happen during a
plant’s life cycle?
• Give me a sentence using the life cycle.
• List three details about the life cycle of a
conifer
• You see a plant that has white blossoms, and
small berries, with seeds inside. Is the plant a
flowering plant of a conifer?
