Spain created an empire which had 1. plantation and settler colonies in the West Indies, Central America though South America Spanish Relations With Indians 1. Spanish treated Indians as savages • Converted to Christianity • Enslaved them • Conquistadors – ”God, Gold and Glory” - Took Indian land and gold 2. Encomienda System - Indians forced to work on plantations Spanish Government 1. Spanish Colonies were governed by crown appointed VICEROYS. 2. Viceroys - a ruler over the colony appointed by the king 3.
